Development needs arise as soon as an employee joins you.
These could be skills or knowledge based, and can be initially addressed through an induction programme, as well as on an ongoing basis throughout the probationary period.
Beyond that period, development needs arise through, for example, the performance appraisal process, the introduction of new processes, policies or procedures, or a promotion or transfer to a new role. You may wish to provide individual coaching or mentoring to specific employees, introduce an e-learning programme or run group development programmes.
