This is the most common reason for companies contacting HR consultants for advice. Why's that? Well it's usually because line managers are concerned about what they can and cannot discuss with an employee who is absent from work. And, they are unsure about employment law in this area. By not discussing a concern with an employee at the early stages, then the concern becomes a bigger problem. This is often avoidable by following perfectly appropriate procedures that are already in place. Do you have a return to work process? Do you know what to do with a fit note?

If you don't have absence procedures or a policy in place then I can help you put these together. If you do, I can advise you on how these fit into a focus on well-being and how they support getting people back to work. Having information on absenteeism eg cost and the causes of absence through absence monitoring will help with this.
